We are celebrating the upcoming 100th episode of everyone's favorite local podcast by presenting the absolute best of what we have done thus far.  Yeah.  That's right.  It's a flashback episode.  You wanna fight about it?  But we've decided to throw a little something extra in to the mix.  Guess who is hosting this look back on DDD's greatest hits?  Why, it's none other than Danny's wife in an extremely rare podcast appearance!  How exciting!  So sit back and listen to see if your favorite clip from the past made it into this very special Best of Danny Does Duluth.

Frost/Nixon can suck it.  If Opie Cunningham wanted to make a movie about a historic interview he should have waited for this one.  On today's terrific episode Danny sits down and has a conversation with the guy who runs the much-talked about dcbwatch.blogspot.com (among other local blogs).  Join Danny and "Duluth's Original Tony Ramone" as they discuss many controversial topics that are typical of the local blogosphere.  This is a good one, folks.  Well worth the wait and the hype.  Enjoy!

The mayor meets with Danny Golden?

Last year love-him or hate-him podcaster Danny Golden pulled a decent April Fool's prank, saying he did an extensive one-on-one interview with Mayor Don Ness, but instead played a recording of the Lew Latto show.

But Golden swears to me that he actually had drinks at Pizza Luce with the mayor on Monday night. And after listening to the podcast, I think I believe him. I think. (Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice...)

Golden, who is generally conservative and has said some not so-nice-things about the mayor on his podcast in the past, said he got a message from the mayor via facebook (the two are facebook friends, and as a full disclosure, I'm Facebook friends with both of them) suggesting the two meet and talk politics.

I sent an email to the mayor asking if this actually took place, and he hasn't responded [UPDATE: see below]. But if it did, I find it incredibly interesting that the mayor took the time to meet with a guy who, well, talks to himself during his shows -- in the form of someone named "Ashley." And he's also someone who is loathed by many on local talk boards (personally, I don't think Danny is so bad, but then I won a "Danny award", so maybe I'm biased.)

I asked Danny if this was like the local version of Obama meeting with Rush Limbaugh.

"More like Barbara Walters and Pee Wee Herman. Take your pick who's who," he said.

What did he think of the mayor?

"He's a nice guy. He's a politician and it shows, but he's a nice guy. I wasn't really surprised. He graduated a year or two ahead of me from Central, but I graduated with his brother who was always a nice guy."

Did meeting the mayor change his opinion of him?

"Not really. But I think there's this perception that I don't like the guy. That couldnt be further from the truth. Just because I make fun of somebody on my moronic little podcast doesnt mean I hate their guts. I crack jokes about Dennis Anderson constantly and I think he rules.

I still have issues with the mayor, and those issues have not changed. But there's alot that I agreed with him on before I met him and those things were only solidified when I talked to him."

Any plans to have the mayor on his podcast?

"We'll see. If something was going on that interests me enough where it would be warranted, I might ask him. But honestly, I wouldnt expect the guy to bother with my dorky little fake radio show."

(As a sidenote: I'll allow anti-Danny comments in the message board for this post. But be warned: When I asked Danny how he'd respond to the haters, he responded, "you know I feed on that stuff.")

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. The mayor writes:

Yeah, Danny, his wife, and I got together for a beer and a slice at Luce. It was a fun conversation - Danny and I went to school together at different times at Grant, Washington Jr, and Central so we mostly talked about common friends and that sort of thing. We talked a little about politics - but nothing too deep. A couple months ago I sent him a note offering to get together and he accepted. That's about it.

Well, well, well.  The greatest week of DDD ever is shaping up to be quite interesting, is it not?  We kick things off with today's episode where Danny gives the run-down to Ashley of all the gory details of last night's historic meeting between himself and the mayor (and Danny's wife).  And check your calenders.  It's not April 1st today, so this isn't a lame April Fool's joke this time.  There's lots of content for you to enjoy in this ep, folks!  Today's show:

Alrighty.  I'm not going to lie to you.  This week is shaping up to be the biggest, most epic, definately most important, incredible week of Danny Does Duluth ever.  Frankly, I appreciate the fact that you have sat back and listened to 92 episodes of what I have to admit are sub-par podcasting uselessness.  But don't give up just yet.  This week your pain and suffering will finally be rewarded.  There will be two episodes this week as usual, but it will feel like many, many more.  Tuesday's Episode 93 will likely feature myself and Ashley discussing "the date" that I've previously teased last week.  Finally that mystery will be revealed.  That might seem exciting enough, but Friday's Episode 94 is going to be the real money shot.  Finally, FINALLY one of DDD's biggest detractors has agreed to step up to the plate and have a conversation with yours truly.  That's right, Duluth's original Tony Ramone from dcbwatch.blogspot.com will be appearing on the show!  I can't even say for sure what will happen when us two Titans of local media speak to each other, but I think it's a safe bet that there will be fireworks involved.

So get ready Northland.  DDD is about to explode!
